Dr. Sharma received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the Houston Baptist University and her Doctorate of Optometry from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico.
Through her degree curriculum she was trained to perform eye exams in Spanish, which gives her an opportunity to help Spanish speaking patients in the Houston metropolitan area. During her clinical rotations, Dr. Sharma enjoyed providing vision screening and mobile clinic services in the rural areas of Puerto Rico and hopes to do so in her local community as well. She completed her externships in California and Houston, where she received supplemental training in the diagnosis and management of ocular pathology and binocular vision dysfunctions.
Dr. Sharma is a Therapeutic Optometrist certified by the Texas Optometry Board and is working toward her Optometric Glaucoma Specialist certification. Dr. Sharma enjoys creating long-term relationships with her patients and aspires to practice full scope optometry to provide the best care. In her time away from the office, Dr. Sharma enjoys reading, baking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
Mimi Duong, O.D. received her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 2021. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Foods from the University of Houston in 2016.
Dr. Duong specializes in primary eye care and ocular disease. After working as a technician for her own optometrist before undergraduate school, Dr. Duong was inspired to begin her journey to become an optometrist. Being able to inform, educate and improve her patient’s quality of life by providing quality eye care is a passion of Dr. Duong. It is also rewarding when she can help her patients see their best.
In Dr. Duong’s free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, practicing yoga and Pilates, attending live concerts, and traveling to new places.
Dr. Loraine Rodriguez Payan is a native of Brooklyn, New York. She moved with her family to Houston at the age of 6 years old. Growing up on the southeast side of Houston, Loraine attended Dobie High School where she graduated in 1988 with Honors. She was awarded an academic excellence scholarship to attend the University of Houston where she began to pursue her interests in Biology and Optometry.
She completed her Bachelor of Science in Optometry and continued studies at the University of Houston College of Optometry where she earned her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1997. During her final year of studies at the College of Optometry Dr. Payan complete externship programs with the US Army at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio and Bellaire Contact Lens associates.
Dr. Payan moved to San Antonio soon after graduation and practiced there with Master Eye Associates for about a year. Missing Houston and her family brought her back where she began working with several different optometrists throughout Houston, Katy and Copperfield areas. She also spent about a year working with an ophthalmologist assisting with pre and post operative care of patients with cataracts, laser procedures and diseases of the eyes.
After 7 years of practice in other optometry offices, she opened her own private practice in August 2004. Dr. Payan believes in taking the time necessary to find out what your personal visual demands are and helping you to find the best way to help you achieve clear, comfortable vision throughout your busy day.
Dr. Payan is a member of the American Optometric Association, Texas Optometric Association, University of Houston Alumni Organization
Jose Payan, O.D. received his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Houston’s College of Optometry in 2009 and earned his undergraduate degree in Biology and Psychology from the University of Houston in 2004. Dr. Payan is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Texas Optometric Association, and the National Glaucoma Society.
Dr. Payan served in the U.S. Army in Germany and San Antonio, and was trained at Brooke Army Medical Center. He later assisted in the opening of the first military optometry/ophthalmology-combined clinic at Brooke Army Medical Center. After his military service, he served as a lead surgical assistant to a glaucoma specialist in a well-established practice in San Antonio.
In practice since 2009, Dr. Payan’s fields of special interest include medical optometry, diagnostic eye procedures, and contact lens fitting. Trained as an ophthalmic assistant in the U.S. Army, Dr. Payan learned various jobs and truly enjoyed all aspects of the eye care field, which supported his interest in becoming an optometrist. Dr. Payan particularly enjoys having the ability to make an immediate difference in his patients’ lives by improving their quality of vision.
